Audio and bias drive a magnetic field. Its strength changes with the head geometry and the tape’s position.
Remember
The coating responds according to its magnetic history. A recording remains after the field has faded.
Playback
A separate head reads the moving magnetic pattern. Changing flux becomes voltage, then sound.
